The Raptor is one of two ships you can choose to recieve upon first starting as a Colonial player. It is used for recon and command with its extra computer support. It is often compared to the Heavy Raider of the Cylon faction which has a near-equivalent layout and systems setup.
You can purchase the Raptor for 75,000 Tylium and advance it for 30,000 Cubits. After advancing the Raptor, you can optionally purchase a Fleet Reconnaissance Variant for 45,000 Cubits. This ship can be purchased at Delta Canopis by seeing SCPO Chief Galen Tyrol. You must be at least Level 1 to purchase this ship.
"The eyes and ears of the Colonial Fleet, the Raptor is designed for rapid reconnaissance and combat support and coordination via its impressive sensor and communications suite. It can also be equipped with a variety of light autocannon and missile pods for both defensive and offensive operations.
As a Command ship, the Raptor can be equipped with more computer systems than other strike craft, increasing its electronic warfare and support capabilities." - SCPO Galen Tyrol
The Raptor is an Command Strike, meaning that it has computers than hull or engines. It can give deadly electronic support and warfare with its extended Emitter Ratings and take electronic warfare with its high Firewall rating. Setups vary somewhat with the Raptor, but it is commonly used as a jump ship for strike squads. Where it lacks Hull Points and Engine power, it makes up for electronics and firepower. The Raptor is one of the most underestimated strike ships in the game. Many pilots fear it with its electronic capabilities.
